DEGREES OF BECOMING: THE STORY BEYOND THE CLASSROOM

They said it would be the best years of our lives — and maybe they were right. But what they didn’t tell us was that the best years would also be some of the hardest, most defining, most soul-stretching moments we’d ever experience.

Stepping into the university felt like entering a different world. A world full of hope and expectation. One where we were no longer children but not quite adults either. We came in wide-eyed and eager, unsure of what lay ahead but willing to try. The thrill of newfound freedom met the weight of responsibility — and slowly, day by day, we began the process of becoming.

We gained knowledge, yes — but we gained more than that.
We gained independence, learning how to navigate life on our own terms. We found our voices in crowded lecture halls and quiet dorm rooms.

We grew confidence in areas we never imagined, made mistakes that taught us more than any textbook ever could, and discovered resilience in moments when we thought we couldn’t go on.

We also lost things — time, comfort zones, parts of ourselves we thought were essential and also friends (fellow coursemates). But in those losses, we found growth. We learned how to begin again, to try again, to believe again.

And oh, the friendships! The people who started as strangers and became lifelines. The late-night conversations, shared struggles, spontaneous adventures, and inside jokes that made the tough days bearable. Some friends stayed, others drifted, but each one left a mark on our journey. They reminded us that we were never truly alone, even when it felt like it.

Somewhere along the way, in the chaos of classes and the quiet of our thoughts, we discovered ourselves. We explored passions, questioned beliefs, changed directions. We realized that growth isn’t linear and that success doesn’t always come dressed in the way we expected. We understood that purpose is rarely found in a straight line — it’s uncovered in the mess, in the movement, in the moments we least expect.

Now, as the finish line draws near, everything feels a little more meaningful. The countdown to the end isn’t just about ticking off days — it’s about soaking in what remains, honoring how far we’ve come, and stepping boldly into what’s next.

Because the truth is, this isn’t just the end of a chapter. It’s the beginning of a new one. One written with the ink of experience, friendship, courage, and discovery.

So here’s to the journey — the laughter, the tears, the trials, the triumphs. Here’s to becoming everything we were meant to be.

And here’s to the beautiful truth: the best is yet to come.
